A car busted through barricades and struck 25 people leaving two dead, five in critical condition, and the rest with injuries. To make the already terrible situation worse, the driver of the vehicle is suspected to have been driving drunk.

According to the Austin Police Department, the accident happened on the heavy populated Red River Drive between 9th and 10th Streets around 12:32 central time. The tragedy took place right as Tyler, the Creator and his Odd Future collective were about to take the stage in front of House of Vans, which is in close proximity to the accident. Austin is such a great town and a beautiful place to run a marathon.  The Austin Marathon is a “must run” race for several reasons and for me the interest is for the cities unique and eclectic vibe.  There was only one part I was not looking forward to…..the hills, lots of hills.  Overall, this trip was part running, part relaxing and part shopping for home furnishings.

Mark and I left late Thursday night and spent the night with a friend in Dallas.  We had a very late night out in Dallas….way past my bedtime, but well worth being tired in the morning.  Friday we drove to Austin and went the expo before the Saturday rush (I’d highly advise this for any race).  After…
